Commercial Dryers Baskets

Commercial Dryers Baskets

Chemours Teflon industrial coatings have become an indispensable material for the commercial laundry industry due to the excellent nonstick qualities of Teflon.

One of the problems in the commercial laundry industry is that plastics can plug the holes in the dryer baskets. The problem is especially acute in medical/hospital laundering, where the plastic wrap used to package most medical devices often ends up in a pocket. In the laundering process, the plastic remains in the wet garment during the wash cycle, but falls out during tumbling in the dryer. The hot drying air fuses the plastic to the metal basket, sealing the air holes. Over time, the accumulation of fused plastic debris plugs so many holes that dryer efficiency is significantly reduced. Higher energy costs and reduced production output result from extended drying times. Removal of the baked-on debris is difficult, time consuming and costly.

A Teflon PFA coating on the interior dryer basket panels provides a nonstick surface which allows the fused plastic to be easily removed. PFA can operate continuously at temperature up to 260 C/500 F and maintains its toughness at high temperature, to provide long service life. This unique combination of properties – nonstick, high temperature resistance and toughness – is typical of how Teflon industrial coatings can provide cost-effective solutions for commercial dryer and other similar problems.
